Gates Foundation, Economic mobility

In a world where economic inequality persists, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is on a mission to drive positive change. Through our animation, we aim to shed light on the Foundation's efforts to enhance the economic system for those grappling with poverty.

The key to economic mobility lies in education beyond high school, offering individuals a pathway to better opportunities. Irrespective of their educational background, most people aspire to lead fulfilling lives through hard work and seizing opportunities to advance economically. Yet, too often, individuals encounter daunting bureaucratic obstacles that hinder their access to essential safety net benefits and tax credits they are rightfully entitled to.

Gates Foundation's focus population consists of almost 50 million people ages 16-64 in the U.S. whose incomes are below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Their Economic Mobility and Opportunity Strategy is focused on partnering across sectors and systems to improve their ability to meet the needs of their focus population and help them achieve long-term economic security.

For this project, our aim was to craft a set of characters that straddled the line between abstraction and simplicity, all while embracing diversity. After exploring several character design options, we ultimately chose to go with '01' as our final design.

In anticipation of the need for crowds of people performing identical actions in this animation, our objective was to develop easily customizable characters and repetitive movement loops.

Once we were happy with the movement loops we used them in complex scenes like below.
